Catherston Defender - died 30th May 2009
"JIB"
"Jib" was bought to me as a 7 year old, by a friend who had him on trial from one of her liveries. I was introduced to the owner, Lyn Fisher and, although I wasn't in a position to buy him, Lyn asked that I produce him for her. He was very thin, had no shoes, terrible feet and couldn't do a thing.
I spent the first 2 months feeding him up and lungeing him to build up his muscles. When I started working him he always showed alot of potential on the flat, but he demolished every jump I pointed him at, even the smallest of cross poles.
After a month I phoned Lyn, but she insisted I persevere. There followed more months of demolition - I would always wear a helmet and body protector when jumping as I was prepared for the outcome!
One day I went out to jump Jib and he surprised us all by jumping to the top of the wings. I got off him and said to my groom - "you better put him away, I think he's confused!!". But since that day he became the best jumper I have ever had in my yard. The most amazing horse!
Lyn sold first half, then all of the horse to me because she wanted the horse to stay with me and, despite several interesting offers, I promised myself that his stable was always with me.
Jib competed at 3*** level successfully although his weak spot was his dressage as he was quite nervous in the ring. My hope was to have himqualified for the World Games next year and have the chance to take him to Kentucky.
Sadly those dreams are now gone, along with my beautiful horse, but he will never be forgotten and his stable remains empty."
